Why Do You Even Care About POC Families' Mental Wellbeing?

From across the classroom, Chris*, a 12th grader shot back at me,🔴 "Why do you even care?"I was cool, calm, and collected on the outside, yet internally, the question startled me.I paused and sincerely pondered the question, "Why do I care?"Immediately, quotes flooded my mind about 'serving others', 'our connected wellbeing', and 'taking care of one another'.Quotes such as:
"Other people matter."
Dr. Chris Peterson, one of the founders of Positive Psychology
"A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in."
Greek Proverb
"Where life is possible, a good life is possible."
Marcus Aurelius
"...Your real job is that if you are free, you need to free somebody else. If you have some power, then your job is to empower somebody else.
Toni Morrison
- I knew the P.E.R.M.A. Model of Well-being (a framework for promoting happiness and flourishing )
- I knew evidence-based studies and research on living a good life.
- I knew how to practice the acronyms : ACT, CBT, DBT and so on.
- I knew the ancient wisdom along with modern science to make all this practical.
I knew his family situation. (His parents were friends. A loving multiracial couple doing the best they knew how—just like my own parents). And most of all, I knew him and his frustration felt familiar.🔴 I used to be him.I was also a mixed teen (Filipino and Bahamian) figuring out my place in the world; making sense of my identity, especially in spaces that continually questioned my belonging (directly and indirectly).Asking myself and answering the question of:
Who am I? Is this in my head? How will I show up in the world?
Similar questions started me on the journey to develop my own mental and emotional wellbeing and skills.I knew greater challenges were waiting for Chris after high school,
and I knew he could handle them.
I caught his eye then gave an affirming smile and simple reply:

🔴 "I want you to have something.
It'll help you later on in your journey."

(*Not his real name, real story though.)

While teaching High School English around the world, the majority of my students were mixed race or grew up in a 'home away from home'.They reminded me of my own upbringing.Growing up abroad at my own personal intersection of Black American, Asian, and Caribbean. These experiences gave me a unique insight into our society's growing issue of youth mental health, especially in the Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities. That said, you don't have to be in a classroom to see it.Once in a conversation with our Head of Department, I said, "These classes feel less like English classes and more like therapy." He replied, "Well Marcus, that's why we call it the Humanities.🔴 We're teaching them to be human."I've since left the classroom.
However, the families, parents, kids and stories haven't left me.
There are still more like them in our communities, still trying to figure out 'how to be human'.

Now, as an email copywriter I use my words to help mental health service providers like you. I build effective onboarding email marketing systems, so you can help people 'be human' well.

Your email marketing system will send
🔴 YOUR personality,
🔴 YOUR stories, and
🔴 YOUR voice
in relevant emails that resonate with your dream audience regularly, in the personal space of their inbox, right when they need it.

That means they trust and call YOU first...
...and you have more time to focus on doing what you love
- serving clients!

And if your caseload is full...
...building your brand
around your specialty.

Why?🔴 I, my friends, and our communities know the struggle of finding a good therapist who 'sees us', our culture and can speak to it, with it, and beyond it🔴 I want you to be a happy provider. If you're a happy therapists / coach, you do better work and provide better care for your clients🔴 People deserve a better quality of life; and your quality of life improves when you have good mental health

If you help cultivate wellness in communities of color, and you want to know how to nurture relationships with your dream clients through email BEFORE they contact you, see how it's done here. With broader access to care, we can help people like my student's family, and people from all diverse walks of life.

Now, the world is my teaching space,
and I've noticed...we're disconnected.

And with the same energy I had in class,
I'm committed to using words to bring us back together.

How?I found a simple approach to meaningful conversations as I traveled, taught and learned how to understand individuals from other cultures.

Really, it's no secret at all.
Simply...

⭕️ Explore ideas with curiosity
⭕️ Seek to understand without judgment
⭕️ Act mindfully for the wellbeing of each other

Regardless of a person's
age, skin color,
nationality, religious beliefs,
behavior or orientation
,
when I find conversation partners
who share this approach —
we share richer experiences.

Rather than just
a transfer of a word,
we have exchanges that lead to
a transformation of being
.

If you want to experience it for yourself, I invite you to our
